A Viable Practice Tool For Guitar Players

8:19 am June 5th, 2008

When it comes to practicing your guitar, there are literally thousands  of teaching methods available. Basic, logical and effective practice habits are an essential building block for any guitarist. You can’t get away from the concept of dedicating a certain amount of time everyday with out any excuses to practice your discipline.

Guitar tools considered standard tools for practicing the guitar, such as a metronome and tuner are indispensable, however there may be ways to improve your skills right under your nose. People can be very imaginative, and come up with some terrific, out of the box practice methods that are quite unique and helpful.

Perhaps it is not unique, but one method I use and really enjoy since it is not as much work as a structured practice session, is to play to the television. The strategy is fun and really develops your ear to find ‘tones’ and the ‘keys’ and improve timing issues in a realistic way. We all watch television to some extent. The music used in different types of shows is fun to emulate in terms of how fast you can figure out what ‘key’ it is in and even the type of ’scale’  being used.

Simply put, television commercials and shows use music that is suitable for the medium. Meaning, a suspenseful ‘Law and Order’ episode may have a lot of tension in the notes played, especially before the ‘dicks’ find the unfindable clue. Commercials such as the ‘Cialis’ ( erectile disfunction medicine ) has a great lead-in slideable chord that is a great ‘measure of music’ to play with.

Since I mainly watch sporting stuff, I hear certain types of commercials that relate well to sports lovers. Maybe you have seen the car commercials for Nissan and I think Chevrolet too, and even the NFL, they use Stevie Ray Vaughan’s “Pride and Joy” as their song. Well, I know this song pretty well, but it is fun, and Stevie Ray is one of my influences. I hear tunes and songs on television shows also that force me into quick ‘key’ and ’scale’ decisions.  For the little time I spend in front of the television, I get a lot of real world practice at these two important elements of music mentioned above.

I call it multi-tasking. Watching television and playing the guitar! Try it, but don’t forget  the logical and effective methods for practicing your guitar that allowed you to play with the television. Now your mom or wife can’t say TV is a worthless waste of time! Enjoy.

Maximizing Efficiency and Value with Custom Cabinetry

10:13 pm June 3rd, 2008

People often ask me what I think is the key to making a kitchen work in a small NYC apartment. No one would argue that space in these shoe boxes is a commodity. Perhaps the best way to make a kitchen space work best is to make sure that everything is easily accessible – within an arm’s reach. That means that your cabinets not only need to built to be within good reach, but also built to hold what you need most. That’s why custom cabinetry makes an enormous amount of sense to get an enormous amount of space in out of your NY apartment.

New York custom cabinets tend to take into consideration that a lot needs to fit in a small area, and that the chef – who is opting to cook at home instead of going out to dozens of restaurants – probably has a lot of high quality gear. Enlisting the help of a qualified kitchen designer or someone familiar with custom cabinet design in Brooklyn or Manhattan will pay for itself in a few meals for sure. Designers are able to incorporate some of the latest technology in cabinetry that will allow you to cram twice as much stuff into half as much space while keeping everything accessible.

The value added of having a kitchen that really works due to its cabinetry is enormous. This value will be realized not only the savings achieved by cooking and eating at home more often (and enjoying the food that much more, if you’re a talent in the kitchen), but also in the value it will add to your home from the vantage of prospective buyers, who will want the flexibility of being able to cook and entertain easily within the confined spaces that is the affordable New York City kitchen. Custom cabinet design should therefore be a no-brainer to anyone who can afford to remodel a kitchen and who would enjoy getting the most out of a tiny space.

Guitar Wiring Diagrams, Stock and Custom

8:51 am June 3rd, 2008

We’ve put together lists of all the parts and wiring diagrams you need to change the wiring orChild wiring guitar simply renew old wiring into convenient to use packs. Each kit includes it’s own wiring diagram and parts list to tell you just how to do it.

Special Notes:

Rewiring an old guitar using the stock wiring diagram can be very frustrating.  Wiring diagrams, whether stock or for a custom upgrade are mostly hard to find, and in many cases hard to comprehend, thus making them unlikely to work well.

Every diagram and part we list is fully tested many times to insure you get the vibe you want. Not only that, every component is designed to give outstanding life and the best tone that you have ever experienced.

The guitar wiring kit shown here is a 5-way lever action switch for all 3 pickup Fender Stratocaster’s, and other 3 pickup guitars. The kit has very detailed directions that are very well explained so most people will understand them with no problems.

Realistically speaking, so many people have their own personal wiring setups and parts they may interchange that GuitarPlayersCenter only feels comfy dealing in proven setups. In fact one of my personal fav’s is a  setup that includes an EMG-SPC control knob being installed in a Stratocaster. What a great switch,  at least in my opinion. I get the best service and prices from Guitar Center or Musicians Friend.

Don’t make a mistake, if you are not inclined to doing these upgrades, then take it to a competent luthier/guitar maker.

Remember to use a solder gun with a replaceable tip , top line solder and flux and don’t get the switches too hot.

Go to Guitar Players Center for all of your guitar needs from upgrades, lessons, reviewing certain models to purchasing them with the best prices and service in the industry.

Good luck and Enjoy.

Real Estate Reviews - James Island, SC

10:14 am May 31st, 2008

James Island, SC offers home buyers a variety of real estate options.  You’ll find lots of real estate for sale right now on James Island, and it is a very strong buyers market here.  James Island is usually one of buyers’ first choices for real estate in the Charleston, SC area.  As a result of this growing demand, James Island is more expensive than some of the other markets in the area.  Most James Island real estate starts around $150,000 for a very basic starter home.  If your real estate budget is less than this amount, I would recommend looking in some of the areas more inland, like West Ashley or Summerville.

In price ranges under $225,000, we usually recommend that our clients consider condos and townhouses.  Although it’s possible to find houses in this range, they usually require more money and out of pocket expense than most buyers are willing to make.  Some of the most popular real estate in these prices can be found in The Retreat, Mira Vista, The Peninsula, The Regatta, Meridian Place, and Point James.  These real estate options are ideal for buyers who want the most affordable real estate with a good location on James Island.  And, all of these communities (with the exception of the last one) are relatively new.

You’ll find plenty of starter houses on James Island from about $225,000 to $250,000.  Newer real estate in this price range can be found in Jamestowne Village and Seaside Plantation, which are two popular communities on James Island.  Older real estate options include Harbor Woods, which has several sections to choose from.

If you’re looking for James Island real estate in the $300s to $500s, you’ll see mostly newer homes.  Popular James Island communities include Ocean Neighbors, Lawton Harbor, Bayview Farms, Westfield Place, Lakeside Village, and Cloudbreak Court.  Two of the best older neighborhoods include Fort Johnson Estates and Riverland Terrace.

A lot of the James Island real estate in the $600s and up is waterfront (mostly marshfront).  In this price range, the majority of real estate is newer.  Buyers generally like Woodward Pointe, Parrot Bluff, Parrot Creek.  Older real estate can be found in Stiles Point Plantation.  Some of the most expensive James Island real estate is found in White Point Estates and Country Club, where prices go to almost $4 million.  Both of these have mostly older homes in them.

Most of James Island SC real estate is made up of ranch-style, brick houses.  But, there are also several new construction communities throughout the island.  Since James Island is, for the most part, a residential area, you’ll find a wide selection of homes to choose from.

When it Pays to Take the Train

11:46 am May 19th, 2008

A friend of mine sat me across from this medical malpractice lawyer in Chicago who says he can get me 700,000 dollars for my car accident! I nearly choked on my coq au vin. According to them, due to the fact that  my car insurance company overlooked the mistakes of my doctor, and since they cover his malpractice liability, that they had a serious conflict of interest in my case and therefore were deceptive in their investigation of his wrong doing. I am very glad to have met this intelligent and persuasive lawyer and will let you all know how it goes. In the meantime, I think I will stick to public transportation since my car was totaled in the incident.

When a Good Slip Makes Its Impact

11:42 am May 19th, 2008

I didn’t go to law school expecting to become a personal injury lawyer. Chicago was, after all, where you went to become a supreme court justice, or maybe a class action litigator taking on populist causes and reaping unfathomable awards from them. But it just so happened that fate, in the form of a slippery floor at O’hare airport, led me to take personal injury and the complaints of those injured by negligence a lot more seriously. I suppose that sometimes it just takes a good knock in the head!

Plastic Surgery Gone Wrong

11:39 am May 19th, 2008

I just had plastic surgery (breast augmentation) and a lot went wrong. A vein was cut that had to be cotterized without anesthesia after the anesthesiologist had left causing me tremendous discomfort and asymmetrical results. I am looking for a Chicago medical malpractice lawyer so that I might recover some money that will help me to fix the damage caused by first surgeon’s incompetence. Has anyone heard of Kroot? My friend once mentioned that they helped her when she fell and hurt herself on the job. Anyone’s advice is very much appreciated.

Taking Classes for Self Protection

11:24 am May 19th, 2008

For most of the year, it’s simply too hot to get regular exercise outdoors in Miami. So what’s a gal to do to stay in shape in the sauna that is Miami? Martial arts training are one of the best options I can think of. A constant schedule of classes makes it convenient. MMA and karate schools are air conditioned. The skills taught make me confident as a single woman that I could protect myself if I needed to. And the regular activity keeps me in shape, gives me a outlet to release stress from work, and is a disciplinary practice that makes it easier for me to make myself do all the things I need to do each and every day.

MMA Training is Great Conditioning

11:22 am May 19th, 2008

I often times get asked by kids’ friends’ parents how I get my children to get exercise in the heat of Florida. MMA is my secret. From what I understand AKI is one of the oldest dojo’s for karate in southern Florida with a MMA accreditation. The air-conditioned dojo means that my kids get exercise while building discipline and self-confidence that show in other areas of their lives. I love I get a some time to myself when they’re gone, and that they are learning the skills necessary to defend themselves in the event they ever needed to.
